The Wave Mosaic Mural is located at the Golden Senior's Centre. It was originally commissioned as a Metis Nation project, but as it evolved artistically, residents from all walks of life in Golden became invested. Individual tiles were bought and contributed by residents, as such the mural became symbolic of the togetherness of the town. Originally, the idea was based on an image of water and a canoe with paddles. Instead, the mural came together as a wave, which represents the interconnectedness of Golden as well as the lineage that brought people together.
In contribution to the mural, Metis Elder and senator, Betty Hoogendoorn, provided a prayer, part of which was inscribed on the mural. It reads:
"Great Spirit, Help us to heal the injured from discrimination
Renew our Spirit with kind deeds and the humility of forgiveness, that helps others keep their life and find blessings within it,
Help us to work together using our Elders as teachers and preparing our youth for the future
In Love, Peace, Amen"
Marsee D'ta Nanah
Kay tee ah yak (meaning the older one)
To hear Betty's full prayer, you can listen to the audio file attached.
